The Boys' Brigade and Girls' Association - The adventure Begins Here

1st Ash Green Company

Anchor Section

The Anchor section is for boys and girls age 5 to 8 (School years 1 to 3). They meet at Ash Village Hall from 5:30pm to 6:30pm during term time. During the hour various activities take place including craft, games, a programme of varied badgework and listening to bible stories. The badgework provides an opportunity to learn all sorts of useful things for daily life.

The Anchors also attend "Fun days" organised by the Battalion which allows the young people to meet and interact with members from other companies in North West Kent.

Junior Section

Junior Section is for boys and girls age 8 to 11 (School years 4 to 6). They meet at Ash Village Hall from 6:30pm to 8:00pm Friday evenings during term time. The boys and girls follow a programme of activities and over the three years work to gain awards.

The badgework is divided into five sections: Body (fit for fun), Mind (think and do), Spirit (God and me), Community (me and my world) and Creativity (make and do) which provides scope for a wide range of activities. Also on a Friday evening a small amount of time is devoted to drill (marching) and we have a quieter time where we can share what we've been doing and have a discussion on a topical subject or a bible story. Last but definitely not least we play lots of games and physical activities.

All Juniors are given the opportunity to attend the Battalion Junior Camp which is usually very popular, and which all who attend seem to enjoy immensely.

Company Section

Company Section is for boys and girls age 11 to 14 (School years 7 to 10). They meet at Ash Village Hall from 8:00pm to 9:30pm on Fridays during term time. The young people follow a programme of structured badgework which tries to provide them with useful skills and knowledge for later life. Time is also spent on physical activities (most popular are football, unihoc and gymnastics). We continue to develop the drill started in Junior Section and have discussions on various topical issues. Members find that it is good to devote part of one evening a week to spending time relaxing and having fun in the company of friends, away from their possibly chaotic school lives.

All have the opportunity to attend the Battalion Camp which runs over a weekend in June and includes two nights sleeping in tents and opportunities to take part in a wide range of sports and activities. We are also fortunate through the support of the Battalion to be able to offer the opportunity to go kayaking in the summer.

Senior Section

Senior Section is for young men and women age 15 to 18. They meet at Ash Village Hall from 8:00pm to 9:30pm on Fridays during term time alongside the Company Section. The young people continue a programme of structured badgework culminating with the Queens Badge. Time is also spent on physical activities (most popular are football, unihoc and gymnastics). Members who are identified as having leadership qualities are offered the opportunity to take part in a residential leadership training weekend which give a good grounding for future management roles in life. It is hoped that these members will help with the running of the Anchor , Junior and Company Sections. Members find that it is good to devote part of one evening a week to spending time relaxing and having fun in the company of friends, away from their possibly chaotic school lives.
